how to colour me
How to apply colour powders at home:
Are you ready to infuse your mane with a pop of vibrant colour without the long-term commitment? Coloured hair powder is your ticket to a temporary and fun hair transformation! Perfect for those who love to experiment with different shades or who want a splash of colour for a special occasion without the hassle of dyeing their hair permanently. In this article, we’ll guide you through a simple, at-home method for applying coloured hair powder, so you can achieve that perfect hue from the comfort of your own home. Let’s dive into the world of colour and give your hair the makeover it deserves!
Pick & Prep Your Powders
Prepping also means preparing your hair. Start with dry, unwashed hair as natural oils can help the powder adhere better. The colours are most vibrant on lifted hair, we recommend having peroxided treatments to be done by a qualified hair dresser. If you have dark hair and want a brighter outcome, consider adding streaks, bright light colours like yellow will not take to dark follicles. Remember, we’re not just applying colour; we’re crafting a masterpiece!
Finally, drape a cape or an old towel over your shoulders to protect your clothing, because while we love colour on our hair, our wardrobe might not share the sentiment! Now, let’s get organized. Place your tools within easy reach and ensure you have a mirror handy to monitor your progress. You’re the artist, and your hair is the canvas – with everything in place, it’s almost time to create your colourful masterpiece. But first, gloves on! we want to keep those hands looking just as lovely as your soon-to-be-coloured locks.
Add the Powder to Shampoo/Conditioner or Water, 1-1 Ratio
To kick off your colourful adventure, begin by mixing your chosen coloured hair powder with an equal part of either shampoo, conditioner, or plain water. The 1-1 ratio is your starting point, but if you’re aiming for a more intense hue, feel free to add more pigment powder. Remember, the more powder you use, the brighter your colour will be. Mix it well to ensure an even distribution of colour.
Apply to Highlighted/Bleached Hair (Towel-Dried)
Once your mixture is ready, it’s time to apply it to your hair. Coloured hair powder works best on highlighted or bleached hair as it allows the colour to show up more vividly. Ensure your hair is towel-dried for optimal absorption. You can use a brush for a more precise application or your hands for an all-over colour.
Develop for 30-45 Minutes
After you’ve ensured every strand is covered in the colourful concoction, it’s time to let it sit and work its magic. Allow the powder to develop for 30-45 minutes. The longer it sits, the more pronounced the colour will be. Grab a book or play your favourite tunes to pass the time as you transform into a more colourful you.
Rinse Until Water Runs Clear, Wash with Sulphate-Free Shampoo and Conditioner
Once the time is up, rinse your hair thoroughly until the water runs clear. To maintain the integrity of your new colour, use a sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner. These products are gentler on your hair and won’t strip away the colour as harshly as regular shampoos.
A Colour Lock Can Be Applied to Lock in the Colour
To ensure your new hue stays vibrant for as long as possible, consider applying a colour lock product. This will seal in the pigment and give you more time to rock your fabulous new colour. It’s an extra step that can make all the difference in the longevity of your hair colour.
Style as Usual!
And there you have it, a simple yet exciting way to bring some colour into your life right from the comfort of your home. Coloured hair powder is a playful and temporary option that allows you to express your unique style without long-term commitment that chemical products will do. i.colour.me powders will last up to 8 wash outs and fade out with every wash, simply make another batch of colour when you want to brighten up, we do not recommend premixing, powders are best used on same day of mixing. So go ahead, channel your inner artist, and let your hair be the canvas for a rainbow of possibilities!
What our customers say
I have been dyeing my hair vibrant colours for over three years now and this is a very, very good product as you can adjust the vibrancy by adding more dye powder to the mix. It’s very strong stuff, so watch out for dyeing the bath too 😂 (thankfully Sunlight soap removes it easily from anything you didn’t mean to dye, including the skin around your hair).

First and foremost, the colour is incredibly vibrant! It is exactly what I was looking for, and I was not disappointed. It turned out even better than I expected, and it really makes my hair stand out. I do want to caution others that wet hair will likely stain things like pillow cases and clothes, so be sure to let your hair dry completely before touching anything you don’t want stained. But, that being said, it’s a small price to pay for such a stunning colour. The application process was easy, and the powder even stuck to my dark brown hair! I was initially worried that it wouldn’t show up on my darker hair, but it definitely did. The fact that the product uses conditioner for application was also a bonus, as it left my hair feeling strong, soft and shiny.
